Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Blu-ray Details Revealed

Advertising [x] by Matt Dolloff – on Jul 24, 2018 in Movie News

The Blu-ray details for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom have been revealed. The hit sequel is well on its way to another massive box office total, with nearly $1.2 billion worldwide despite just five weekends in U.S. theaters and a steep drop in its second week. It survived mixed reviews from critics, many of which praised Fallen Kingdom for continuing the Jurassic Park franchise's tradition of high-stakes action and eye-popping visual effects but also criticized its diminishing returns.

It feels like Fallen Kingdom has only just arrived. But today's era of faster release cycles already has us talking about its home release on Blu-ray and other formats. It may seem quick to North American audiences, but the sequel actually hit theaters domestically two weeks after it first premiered in several overseas markets. The full details for the impending Blu-ray release are officially released, and there's plenty to unpack for Jurassic World fans who desire a behind-the-scenes look at the movie.

As Universal announced, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will be released digitally on Sept. 4, with Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and DVD releases following on Sept. 18. There will also be a 3D Blu-ray version. Expected retail prices for the releases weren't revealed. The Blu-ray, 4K, and digital releases will include five exclusive bonus features to entice consumers to go for the physical versions. Those include a discussion with filmmakers on the franchise's new direction, cast & crew interviews on shooting in Hawaii and working with animatronic dinosaurs, and behind-the-scenes looks at the oddly controversial auction scene as well as action sequences in a bunker and gyrosphere ride.

Those sticking to DVDs won't be out of luck when it comes to bonus features, either. All formats will include several featurettes related to the creation of Fallen Kingdom's dinosaurs, including the new Indoraptor. There's also an in-depth look at the return of Jeff Goldbum to the franchise as Dr. Ian Malcolm, and on-set highlights from stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. An additional documentary, Jurassic: Then and Now, revisits "key moments" from the franchise that tie into Fallen Kingdom.

The latter feature should be of interest to all fans of the Jurassic franchise, especially those who got started with the new installments and could use some info on how it connects to the originals. It also makes sense to spotlight Goldbum's return, his first appearance in the franchise since The Lost World in 1997. And it may interest fans for a different reason to learn more about the making of the auction scene; it drew a relatively innocuous kind of controversy with the prices for living, breathing dinosaurs, which sounded outrageously low.

But at the heart of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is its action and visuals, which continued to deliver for audiences who are into dinosaur-led mayhem. That's where the majority of special features lie in the Blu-ray and digital versions, and it'll be fascinating viewing for fans who want to see how the movie came to life. And the franchise's continued box office success likely ensures that it will have another hit on their hands when the third installment comes out in 2021.
